Georgia Chamber of Commerce Awards Turner County Schools $21,450 Grant for Workforce Development
Turner County, Georgia - Turner County Schools is proud to announce the receipt of a $21,450 grant from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. This grant, aimed at enhancing workforce development efforts, will support initiatives focused on aligning workforce development efforts with the needs of local industries and expanding awareness of post-secondary and high-demand career opportunities in the community. The grant will be utilized to implement various programs and initiatives to better prepare students for successful careers. These include the creation of new career pathways at Turner County High School, developed in collaboration with local businesses and industry leaders. These pathways will equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for careers in high-demand fields. Additionally, the grant will support the Turner Workforce Project, a partnership between Turner County Development Authority, the Ashburn/Turner County Chamber of Commerce, Turner County Schools, Southern Regional Technical College, and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. This project aims to bridge the gap between education and industry by offering internships, apprenticeships, and teacher externships to students and educators. It will also provide workforce boot camps to graduating seniors, equipping them with essential employability skills and industry-recognized certifications. "We are extremely grateful to the Georgia Chamber of Commerce for their support," said Eva Joiner, CTAE Director at Turner County Schools. "This grant will allow us to expand our efforts in preparing our students for successful careers, ultimately benefiting our community as a whole." Turner County Schools is committed to sustaining these programs beyond the grant period, using local funds funding to continue hosting career fairs, mock interviews, industry tours, and summer internships for students. Additionally, efforts are underway to expand the participation of school teachers, ensuring that students at all levels are exposed to career pathways and workforce opportunities.
